Nuno Santos arrived at Sporting in the summer and has already assumed himself as a key player in Rúben Amorim’s team, recognizing that he is an important player. Despite the prudent speech, from party to party, the 25-year-old extreme considers that the group, full of quality, has the maturity to be able to assume the position of candidate for the title.

He came to Sporting in the summer. What surprised you the most about the club? Did it exceed your expectations?

– Surpassed, in all aspects. It is a great club, a great one in Portugal. In all aspects. I am very happy, it was a step forward to arrive at Sporting.

At that time there was talk of a proposal from FC Porto. Did it really exist?

– I’ll just say there was that interest. But I am at Sporting, with my head here, this is my club and this is where I want to be.

What made you choose Sporting? At the time of presentation he said it was his own choice.

– I chose it because it was the project that I saw and that could have more opportunities, a club that is a very big challenge, both for me and for the rest of the players who came. We are showing it and that is why I decided to come to Sporting.

Sporting is the leader. Are you comfortable in that place or is there a little extra pressure here?

– No. We, as Sporting, as Sporting players, cannot be under pressure to be in first place. Sporting is a great club, a club that has to be used to being up there and we already take that into account. Let’s play game by game, the championship is too long. Right now, we are first but focused, always humbled and continuing our work. Match by match we will achieve the objective, as we have achieved it. We have six wins and one draw. We are doing well and it will continue.

João Mário aimed for the Champions League. Is that the strategy, aim for the Champions League? Is it also a way to protect younger players?

– If we talk about Champions, we will have to be in first or second place for direct entry. Or third. But Sporting must fight to always be at the top and we, as players, always dream of being in European competitions, both in the Europa League and, of course, higher in the Champions League. Everyone wants to be there, but if things don’t go well, we won’t be there. It is to give continuity, match by match, with this union of the group. We have a fantastic group, very united and eager to win every game.
