Through a statement, Vitória de Guimarães demanded, this Sunday, an urgent clarification from Pedro Proença, president of the Portuguese League, on the statements he made about the nullity of the fine imposed on the hooded fan in the match with FC Porto, from last season, marked by Marega’s departure from the field.

Fully disclosed:

Pedro Proença’s statements require clarification

Vitória Sport Clube learned, through Jornal de Notícias this Saturday, of a judicial decision that annulled the fine of 750 euros imposed by the Authority for the Prevention and Combat of Violence in Sports (APCVD) to an adept who placed and he closed the hood of his coat during a match held at the Estádio D. Afonso Henriques. At no point in the aforementioned news is there a suspicion of any discriminatory behavior on the part of the Vitória supporter, and only a gesture that the APCVD judged as concealment of identity is being considered and that the Court did not validate, revoking the fine applied.

It was with surprise, therefore, that Vitória received the reaction of Pedro Proença, who punctually classified the decision as incomprehensible and regrettable, being energetic to the point of calling to “combat all forms of violence, racism and intolerance”, quickly awakening associations . that have nothing to do with the process in question.

Without Pedro Proença clarifying his statements, it is up to Vitória Sport Clube to conclude that the president of the Portugal League disrespects, with this type of intervention, the principle of separation of powers, using the sentence of an act that in itself is absolutely innocuous and common to all stadiums and pavilions and to all sports. How many registries will APCVD have installed? – revive the discussion of the Marega Case with references that can only be understood as pressure to extract punishments.

It is also symptomatic that said intervention occurs a few days after a Vitória SC x FC Porto, what the Board of Directors takes from this position and that it has the duty to record is the undeniable contribution that it produces to legitimize prejudices and generalizations, which are the fuel. Disproportionate interventions such as the one we witnessed recently by the police on the Vitória fans and that the Club denounced and documented as excess and arbitrariness, later in the face of silence, which we now deduce as an accomplice, of the Portugal League and its President.

Vitória Sport Clube was and will be at the forefront to eradicate sports violence, which at no time can be confused with purges, stigmas or selective punishment.

It is urgent that the president of the Portugal League clarify his position, otherwise the outrage over the absolution of a 750 euro fine to a fan when suspicions about the integrity of their competitions hang over Portuguese football.
