Two more Benfica players tested positive for Covid-19. After Waldschmidt, Gilberto, Vertonghen, Diogo Gonçalves and Grimaldo, now Otamendi and Nuno Tavares will also be eliminated for tonight’s match against SC Braga, in the semi-finals of the League Cup.
The announcement was made by the club itself, through a statement: «Sport Lisboa e Benfica reports that two positive cases were detected in the latest diagnostic tests for COVID-19 carried out on professional footballers. The central Otamendi and the left back Nuno Tavares tested positive for the new coronavirus this Wednesday.
The two players have therefore not traveled to Leiria this morning, where the Reds will face SC Braga tonight, starting at 7:45 pm.
It is recalled that Benfica announced the existence of an outbreak in the squad, which, among players, coaches and squad, now goes to 19 elements positive for the coronavirus. President Luís Filipe Vieira is also infected.
