A month after assuming the command of Vasco da Gama, Ricardo Sá Pinto gave a long interview to the Globo program Esporte Espetacular, in which he spoke about the charm he has felt with this experience in Brazil.

«I am a big fan of Brazil, there are Cariocas in my family, I know almost all of Brazil, of those most well-known places, obviously tourist ones. And I really like coming here. It is my first experience living here, I feel very adapted, but I have not had time to visit the city. I still don’t have a house, I don’t have a car, the only thing I need to have, and I didn’t have it, is time. I still live in a hotel. But I am completely adapted to Brasileirão, to what the game implies, to the calendar, to the demands and day-to-day life of what it is like to live here », said the Portuguese coach, also aware of the dangers of the city:

“I know that I have to be careful, not only in terms of Covid-19, but also in terms of security. We were training for a few days and there were some shots and police interventions around the Training Center. At some point there may be stray bullets and we had to be careful. We had to go to the other side for security reasons. But we never felt unsafe because the police intervention was good, there was nothing special. Everything was fine between us. “

«Rio is a wonderful city. I didn’t feel unsafe at any point, but that saddens me as it stains tourism. It’s bad for everyone, especially with the economy as it is », continued Sá Pinto, without ceasing to insist on the desire to continue with his work:

«Clearly the interest is to continue. I feel very well at the club and at this point my concern is not the future, it is the immediate one. It’s wanting to help Vasco get out of an uncomfortable situation, make a peaceful championship, try to go as well as possible in the Brasileirão in terms of qualification and as far as possible in the South American. Clearly the biggest concern is the Brasileirão for the competitiveness that exists. There are a lot of good teams down there, like Botafogo, that are strong. It will be a very tough fight.
