THE BALL – «Our football will win something with the Sporting champion» (League)

After 10 rounds, Sporting remains isolated in the league leadership, with two points more than Benfica and four points ahead of FC Porto. Manuel Machado, 65, believes that it would be beneficial for Portuguese football if Rúben Amorim’s team were to break the hegemony of the rivals when it comes to winning the title.

“If Sporting manages to break this hegemony that FC Porto and Benfica have had in recent years, I think our football will win something,” says the current coach of Berço FC, a team that participates in the Portuguese Championship, in statements to the Radio Renascença.

Despite noting that “there is still a lot of championship to compete”, Manuel Machado emphasizes that, so far, “Sporting has a competitive consistency above” eagles and dragons, which are “more traditionally candidates for leadership.”

For this reason, he maintains, “it is not surprising” to see Alvalade’s team in the first place of the classification.

“We will see to what extent we have ballast to continue with this good performance until the end of the season,” he concludes.
