The Hospital das Forças Armadas, in Lisbon, received today two patients infected with covid-19, following a request from the Beatriz Ângelo Hospital, in Loures, announced the General Staff of the Armed Forces (EMGFA).
In a statement, EMGFA said that on Saturday at the Lisbon branch of the Armed Forces Hospital, “two patients infected with covid-19 from the Beatriz Ângelo de Loures Hospital” were admitted.
“This support responds to a request from the Hospital de Loures, under the collaboration protocol” between the Hospital das Forças Armadas and the Regional Health Administration (ARS) of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo “, having been transported by an ambulance from Loures” added the EMGFA.
The two infected patients “were received by a medical team and sent to isolation rooms, where they will be given proper medical attention,” according to the EMGFA note.

On Friday, the Regional Health Administration of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo (ARS-LVT) assured that the 13 hospitals in the region with the capacity to house covid-19 patients were “far from exhausting” the available beds.
At the press conference to update the information on the infection by the new coronavirus, the president of the ARS of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, Luís Pisco, explained that this region, which covers 3.6 million people, has 13 hospitals capable of treating patients with covid-19, with 6,339 beds that can be assigned for covid or other situations.
According to the official, the 13 hospitals in this region have 503 beds dedicated to patients with covid-19 and, at that time, 383 people were hospitalized.
Regarding intensive care units, in the capital region there are 98 beds for covid-19 patients, 74 of which are currently occupied.
Luís Pisco said that there is a plan with three contingency levels in the hospitals of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo since the epidemiological situation worsens and it is necessary to open more beds, reaching a total of 917 beds and, in the case of the units intensive care. , it can go up to 185.
The president of the ARS of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo also stressed that there are other hospital structures that can provide support, namely the Armed Forces Hospital, which can provide beds for more serious covid patients and intensive care, the Atendimento Center Military of Belém, for less serious cases and can reach up to 90, and the Alfeite base, for people who need to be in quarantine and have no conditions at home.
Luis Pisco also said that, in recent times, the hospitals that have “been under the most pressure” are Beatriz Ângelo, in Loures, and Fernando Fonseca, in Amadora, because they are the places with the most cases of covid-19.
“We are working with them to make sure that when they are nearing their peak, patients can be transferred to other hospitals,” he said.
