“We are doing everything possible to recover those lands,” said Bernardino Rafael, quoted today by Rádio Moçambique, as part of a visit to a reception center in the district of Montepuez, in the province of Cabo Delgado, in northern Mozambique.

According to Bernardino Rafael, the Defense and Security Forces are doing everything possible to stop terrorist incursions, a condition for the displaced populations to return to their areas of origin.

“If one day the districts affected by terrorism are free, we have to go back, otherwise the terrorists will occupy our land and we will be foreigners on our own properties,” he said.

The general commander of the PRM reinforced the call for greater vigilance in the communities, considering that the populations are fundamental in the war against the insurgents.

“To wage a war, the presence of the Defense and Security Forces is not enough; the best combatants, in the course of the war, are the population. We have to be vigilant and report any anomaly ”, he declared.

The armed violence in Cabo Delgado, where the largest private multinational investment in Africa takes place, for the exploitation of natural gas, began three years ago and is causing a humanitarian crisis with more than two thousand deaths and 560 thousand displaced, without homes. nor food, concentrated mainly in the provincial capital, Pemba.

Some of the raids have been claimed by the Islamic State ‘jihadist’ group since 2019.
