Is your energy bill high at the end of the month? Don’t have a strategy to lower the values? A European consortium led by the Institute of Systems Engineering and Informatics, Technology and Science (INESC TEC) has recently created an application that can help you.

It is called ECOplay and it is an application that will help you reduce your energy bill. Know how.

ECOplay: the application that helps you reduce your energy bill

ECOplay is a mobile application that helps you save energy. This application is available for free download for iOS and Android phones. In practice, this application aims to help the Portuguese to change small daily habits that can make a difference from a financial and environmental point of view.

At a time when many Portuguese families work from home, the change in habits is naturally reflected in energy bills.

This application allows you to learn a little more about energy efficiency in a playful way, while encouraging users to save more energy in their daily life. On the other hand, all the electricity that is saved has a positive impact on reducing the consumption of fossil fuels to produce electricity, minimizing CO2 emissions and helping to curb climate change.

The application was developed within the framework of the European FEEdBACk project, whose objective is to develop, integrate and test new technologies related to the energy area and apply them in order to promote energy efficiency, through a change in user behavior.

In the mobile application, users have access to informative videos and a series of episodes on lighting, heating or electrical appliances, as well as questionnaires related to day-to-day decision-making on energy efficiency behavior.

The application also includes, in the more advanced levels, a series of six episodes with elements of science fiction and suspense where the environmental crisis is the central theme.

Depending on the learning and performance of the user, points and distinctions will be awarded that will allow you to progress in the ranking of users. Throughout the game, the user also receives notifications that encourage them to adopt more sustainable behaviors.

This project is funded with € 2.3 million, within the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and development program.
