The Air Force suspends operations with drones after forced landing in Alcácer do Sal

The Portuguese Air Force (FAP) announced the suspension of operations with its ‘drones’ until the investigation into the forced landing of one of these devices that took place this Saturday in the municipality of Alcácer do Sal, district of Setúbal.

In a statement, the FAP reports that its own unmanned aircraft (‘drone’), which was operating from Air Base No. 11, in Beja, from where it had taken off at 11:10 am for an aerial surveillance mission in the southern area. from Portugal, “made a forced landing” in the area of ​​Torrão, municipality of Alcácer do Sal, district of Setúbal, at 11:40 am.

“The aircraft went to an isolated area, without putting the population or homes at risk,” emphasizes the FAP, referring that “the causes of the accident are already being investigated by the Air Force Accident Prevention Office.”

According to the FAP, “until the conclusion” of the investigation, “operations with this type of aircraft are suspended at the other operational bases (Lousã and Mirandela)”.

The FAP emphasizes that, “at this time of greatest risk, it will commit manned aircraft to carry out aerial surveillance and fire detection missions.”

In information delivered to the Lusa agency this morning, a source from the District Relief Operations Command (CDOS) of Setúbal said they were aware of the fall of a ‘drone’.
