An “exceptional measure” allows, from Tuesday, deputies to dine in Parliament until 11 pm, on parliamentary working days. The measure was communicated to the parliamentary groups by the Secretary General of the Assembly of the Republic, Albino de Azevedo Soares.
According to Rádio Renascença, which had access to an email written by Azevedo Soares, the deputies can, from this Tuesday, have dinner in Parliament until 11pm.
“In order to respond, during the month of January, to the needs, in particular, of the deputies who, when displaced, have difficulties to find solutions for dinner, the Assembly of the Republic established an agreement with the concessionaire of the restaurant in the deputies at the São Bento Palace so that, during the month of January, this restaurant can be open for dinner on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays – if parliamentary works are scheduled ”, the official writes.
“This exceptional measure may be extended during all or part of the month of February, if the state of emergency is renewed in identical conditions to the one in force,” admitted the Secretary General of the Assembly of the Republic.
The Assembly of the Republic has already scheduled a session for January 28 to discuss a new renewal of the state of emergency.
Parliament has a restaurant in the new building and a cafeteria in the old building, which can be attended by members, officials, journalists and guests.
According to the Renaissance, the terms of this dinner service are defined in the secretary general’s email. The dinner service will be held between 7.30 pm and 11.00 pm, on parliamentary working days; occupancy remains at the 1/3 limit (the same limit for lunches); reservation required until 3 pm; the kitchen closes at 10 pm and it is not allowed to stay after 11 pm.
The same restaurant operates on a “take away” basis, and MPs can pick up orders half an hour after the end of parliamentary work.
