At least four residential structures for the elderly in the municipality of Fafe are dealing with outbreaks of covid-19. Two of them belong to the local Santa Casa da Misericórdia.

Through social networks, that institution today reported twelve cases in ERPI Cónego Leite de Araújo, five users and seven employees. According to the same source, everyone is “stable”.

This home, with 83 users and 120 employees, has already been “duly tested”, pending new results. The situation is being monitored by the health delegate and municipal civil protection.

Another Mercy home, Lar D. Joaquina Leite Lage, in Cepães, has had eleven active infections since the beginning of this week. Today, the institution updated the information related to this house, informing that there were no more positive cases.

“Infected users remain stable, with only one of the users receiving hospital treatment as a precaution,” the institution wrote on social media.

The most worrying case is that of Lar de Silvares São Martinho, who discovered an outbreak with 29 infections after a patient had a hospital emergency episode where it was necessary to be tested with covid-19.

In statements to the newspaper Fafe news, the director of that center, which belongs to the parish, said that there are 19 users and 10 employees infected with the coronavirus. The remaining elements, between users and employees, were negative.

It also ensures that everyone is asymptomatic and that the home is functioning normally, although there is monitoring by Social Security and the Municipality of Fafe, for the intervention of the ‘brigades’ of the Ministry of Health.

The fourth home with covid-19 is that of the Martim de Freitas Cultural and Recreational Group, where the management did not advance figures but confirmed that there is “a reduced percentage” of cases.

In statements to the newspaper Fafe newsThe treasurer Pedro Rodrigues assured that the situation “is under control” and that the management is following all the instructions of the DGS.

In addition to these localized outbreaks, there is also an outbreak in the Fafe fire department, with ten infected. The local Red Cross also recorded two positive cases among employees.

The municipality of Fafe is one of the 121 municipalities of the country included in the Government’s risk list, with a contagion rate per inhabitant higher than 240 per 100,000.

Recently, the mayor, Raúl Cunha, decreed a municipal emergency situation in the municipality, providing greater vigilance to comply with the regulations imposed by the Council of Ministers to mitigate the advance of covid-19.
