The Tavira schools of 2nd and 3rd cycle and secondary education will remain closed after the Christmas holidays, “as a precautionary measure,” due to the epidemiological situation in this municipality, confirmed Ana Paula Martins, mayor, to the South.

According to the mayor, “today there was a meeting of the Municipal Civil Protection Commission and this request was made to the Health Authority, we are only waiting for confirmation from the DGS.”

Ana Paula Martins added that “at this time the indication we have is that the schools will be closed for at least a week, with classes to be taught remotely.

The mayor explained that this measure, which comes into effect on Monday, January 4, “is due to the evolution of the figures during the last week. Some of the confirmed cases are in these age groups, so it is a precautionary measure.

In the last week, according to data from the Regional Health Authority, to which our newspaper had access, Tavira registered 235 new cases of Covid-19.

These figures, according to Ana Paula Martins, could make Tavira become part of the list of municipalities with very high risk, which includes, among other measures, the curfew from 1:00 p.m. on weekends.
