TAP renegotiated the delivery date of 27 new aircraft with Airbus, which will allow the Portuguese airline to subsequently receive the new aircraft.

The airline’s new planes were due to be received in 2025, but with the new schedule they will be received for the next two years, until 2027.

“Airbus is contracted for the acquisition of 53 aircraft (39 A320 NEO Family and 14 A330 NEO) that will be received between 2018 and 2025. This order is the result of the novation to TAP SA of the acquisition contract previously negotiated and signed between Airbus and DGN Corporation ”, according to TAP.

“Of these, the contracts to assign a contractual position with subsequent leaseback and contracts sale and leaseback for 18 aircraft, of which 17 aircraft have already been received ”, he adds.

TAP now announces that it has renegotiated with the European aircraft manufacturer the postponement of the delivery of the new aircraft.

“However, the delivery dates of 13 A320neo aircraft from 2012-2022 to 2025-2027 and the delivery date of the A330neo from 2022 to 2024 have been renegotiated with Airbus,” the company notes.

TAP indicates that the “agreement already reached with Airbus” will change the “contracts for the acquisition of
aircraft of the A320neo and A330neo families “, which will reduce CAPEX (investment) in 2020-2022 by an approximate amount of one billion dollars (856 million euros)” in order to achieve a better alignment with the current market moment. and perspectives for the next 18-24 months ”.

In the A320neo, the agreement reached by Airbus will reduce the number of aircraft to be delivered in 2020, “postponing some deliveries to 2021”. The company also notes that the agreement “made it possible to postpone most of the deliveries originally planned for 2021 and 2022 to the period between 2025 and 2027.”

Regarding the A330neo, TAP managed to postpone the two aircraft until 2024 “with delivery originally scheduled for 2022, guaranteeing TAP Air Portugal the possibility of exchanging these aircraft for other models, to be evaluated according to the market rebound and needs. from TAP Air Portugal at that time ”.

In the first half of 2020, six aircraft (three A319s, one A320, one A321 and one E190) stopped operating, while three new Airbus aircraft (two A330neo and one A321neo) entered operation and one A321neo LR went into operation. phase in. TAP currently has 108 aircraft, of which 102 are available for commercial aviation.

TAP recorded a loss of 582 million euros in the first half, the company announced on Monday, having registered a 62% decrease in the number of passengers carried during the first six months of the year.

The company also announced that it is preparing to deliver its restructuring plan to the European Commission before December 10, with Brussels subsequently making the final decision on the future of TAP, which has already received 500 million euros in aid from the Portuguese State in Reach of the loan with a total value of 950 million euros, which could reach 1,200 million, if justified.
