Two GNR soldiers were shot on Tuesday at the Fernão Ferro Intermarché, in the municipality of Seixal. In an exchange of gunfire, the man who shot both guards was killed, according to a GNR press release. With the suspect, there was a woman, who was slightly injured.
The Jornal de Notícias reports that the soldiers belong to the Almeirim de Santarém Criminal Investigation Center and, according to the GNR, they were in a surveillance operation against a suspicious group when they were shot. The group was approached after the execution of an arrest warrant.
According to the same source, a man was also arrested for resistance and duress.
The alert was registered at 6:22 p.m. One of the elements was wounded in the abdomen, being in serious condition, and was transferred to the Hospital García de Orta, in Almada, according to the Correio da Manhã; another suffered leg injuries.
According to the same source, the PJ is at the scene collecting evidence and the traffic on that road, which connects Seixal with Barreiro, has been cut off.
