One person died and eight were injured after the collapse of several shelves in a supermarket in the Brazilian state of Maranhão.
The case occurred at the Mix Mateus Atacarejo supermarket on Friday night. The mortal victim was identified as a collaborator of the commercial establishment.
After the accident, six wounded were sent to hospitals by teams from the Maranhão Military Fire Brigade and the Mobile Emergency Service, while the other two victims went to the hospital by their own means.
Videos posted on social media show metal structures collapsing in a kind of domino effect. At the time of the accident, there was an intense movement of customers. There is no information yet on the cause of the accident.
The Mateus Group, which runs the supermarket chain, issued a note on the collapse, clarifying that the team of managers and employees is monitoring the work of rescue teams and collaborating with authorities.
