The first internet-connected computers promised to students and teachers under the Government’s Digital School program will begin arriving in schools later this week. The kits consist of a laptop – adapted to the educational level -, headphones with a microphone, backpack, hotpsot and SIM card, which guarantees connectivity from anywhere in the country.

In the information from the Ministry of Education sent this Wednesday to the directors of the groups, the amount of equipment that will be delivered in these first days is not mentioned, but the guarantee that Minister Tiago Brandão Rodrigues gave more recently in Parliament is that of bring to schools a first batch of 100,000 before the end of 1st period. The Prime Minister had even announced that computers would start arriving before classes began.

For now, priority is given to high school students who are in step A of school social action (those with the lowest income) and without access to electronic equipment at home.

The Escola Digital program has a budget of 400 million euros, financed with Community funds and provides, in addition to computers, teacher training and access to more digital teaching resources.

These resources are growing in importance as the number of infections in communities increases and more and more students are forced to complete isolation at home and return to distance education.
