The interview with the head of government took place a few hours before the parliament gave the green light for the entry into force of the state of emergency as of Monday. António Costa explains that it is advisable to give reinforced legal support to the eventual need to take even more restrictive measures in the context of combating the pandemic, such as temperature measurement, curfews or limits to travel between municipalities.

Restrictions that, António Costa emphasizes, can be applied only in certain periods of time, and not permanently. The concrete emergency measures will be announced tomorrow, after an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers.

Regarding the work carried out by Marta Temido, António Costa pointed out, in this interview with public radio, that a Health Minister had never faced such an ordeal. And it guarantees that the political trust it has in the government “is reinforced.”

On the economic front, and a day after the government announced a package of one billion euros to support companies, the prime minister assumes that not everyone will be able to survive this crisis.
