A 12-year-old girl gave birth at her home last Sunday in Cantabria, Spain.
According to El País, no one knew about the girl’s pregnancy. The father, who belongs to the same family, is 17 years old and lived in the same house as the girl.
According to the Spanish newspaper, the girl’s pregnancy was discovered almost at the time of delivery. Until then, neither the parents nor the social services in the region, where the child and the family would already be referred, would know that he was expecting a baby.
It was last Sunday the 6th that an ambulance was called to the family home to attend a delivery. The paramedics who came to the scene cut the umbilical cord and, after stabilizing the mother and son, both were transferred to the Marquês de Valdecilla University Hospital. The child has already been discharged, but the baby remains hospitalized for observation.
Authorities are now investigating whether there has been any sexual assault and the family has already expressed their intention to give birth to the baby for adoption. Until then, social services declined to comment on the case.
According to El País, which cites sources close to the case, it is a “complicated family.” The girl was in the custody of her mother and her father is in prison for drug trafficking.
The school the girl attended also did not know about the pregnancy and the girl always had good academic results.
The girl will have become pregnant at the beginning of the period of confinement in Spain.
