José de Sousa Sintra’s only son was arrested Tuesday afternoon after being barricaded inside a house in Vila do Bispo, Algarve.
Miguel de Sousa Cintra, 51, was reportedly detained inside the house after the GNR was called to the scene due to shots being fired at a machine that was laying water pipes, CMTV reports. It is said that the son of the former sports director was detained by soldiers of the Republican National Guard and members of the PJ, the same television channel reported.
Humberto Galego, Public Relations of the Faro District Command, confirmed to Diário de Notícias that a man was detained in the afternoon after spending time barricaded inside a house in Vila do Bispo. However, the officer did not say that it was Miguel de Sousa Cintra, but added that firearms were seized at the residence. Searches continue on the ground.
Images released by CMTV show some GNR vehicles parked next to the house where Miguel Sousa Cintra will be. “Mr. Miguel, speak to the Republican National Guard. Leave the house with your arms raised ”, you hear a military appeal.
Sousa Cintra’s son ended up leaving the house without offering resistance. According to GNR, the detainee will spend the night in detention and will be presented to court on Wednesday.
A witness heard by the television channel reported that a similar situation occurred on Saturday. That day, Miguel de Sousa Cintra also fired in the direction of some vehicles that were working in the area and the GNR was also called to the scene. The witness, moved, was concerned about the situation.
The 51-year-old man’s motivations are unknown. The case will now be investigated by the PJ for having used firearms.
Miguel de Sousa Cintra is the son of the Algarve businessman’s first wife (Sousa Cintra was born in the town of Raposeira, in the municipality of Vila do Bispo), a teacher from Lagos. In 1998, when he was 28 years old, he was the protagonist of a case that gave rise to talk: he was kidnapped after being lured by a fake business in Alentejo.
