The mayors of Porto Moniz, Ponta do Sol and Machico have so far declined to comment on the search by the respective municipalities. Emanuel Câmara, Célia Pessegueiro and Ricardo Franco, respectively, are silent, and among these three only the mayor of Ponta Solense publicly confirmed the investigation – in this case in statements to Agência Lusa – without giving further details.

So far, the president of PS-Madeira, Paulo Cafôfo, and the mayor of Funchal, Miguel Silva Gouveia, have reacted to what happened. The leader of the Socialists chose to address the situation through a statement, showing himself “fully available to collaborate with the judicial authorities” in the context of the ongoing investigation “from an online complaint that dates back to 2018.” .

The PS / Madeira president declared today that the party “is fully available to collaborate with the judicial authorities” in the investigation being carried out by the Judicial Police that involves four municipalities in the region.

The Mayor of Funchal showed some reserve in the information provided after the weekly Chamber Meeting. Even so, Miguel Silva Gouveia assumed to be “100% calm” regarding this entire process. “All the requested documents have been delivered and, therefore, now we have to wait calmly for the investigation to be carried out. The Chamber has done everything possible to collaborate with the justice and the Judicial Police,” he mentioned.

It is recalled that the Judicial Police (PJ) carried out raids in four municipalities of the Region (Funchal, Porto Moniz, Ponta do Sol and Machico) to collect evidence, based on an anonymous complaint made on the platform of the Attorney General’s Office . Republic.

PSD-Madeira guarantees that it is not related to the complaint

In the early afternoon, TVI said that Paulo Cafôfo “is suspected of crimes such as passive corruption, economic participation in business, embezzlement and abuse of power.”

Along with Cafôfo, the main figure of the PS in Madeira, there are more suspects involved in the alleged crimes, such as construction entrepreneurs and those responsible for advertising and marketing companies. Likewise, according to the Queluz de Baixo station, they were subject to raids by the National Anti-Corruption Unit of the PJ.

The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) confirmed to DIÁRIO this afternoon that the raids initiated yesterday by the Judicial Police to collect evidence in municipalities of the Autonomous Region of Madeira are related to an investigation carried out by the Department of Investigation and Criminal Action (DIAP ) from Lisbon.

Public contracts of companies are at stake, by direct agreement, with false suspicions of provision of services and, consequently, of inflated values in the provision of services. The objective, according to complaints that reached the Public Ministry, would be the illegal financing of PS-Madeira through public money.
