Salomé Rocha (forward in the image) lost the title to her colleague Sara Moreira

The athlete wore irregular shoes and lost 1st place.

Salomé Rocha lost the national title of the 10,000 meters because she wore irregular shoes in the competition that took place on Friday, in Maia. Shortly after the Sporting athlete finished the race in 1st place, she was found to be wearing shoes that are not approved for track events. In question is the Nike Vaporfly NEXT% model, which since August has been banned from distances greater than 800 meters.

According to a statement from the Portuguese Athletics Federation, Salomé Rocha and her coach, Rui Ferreira, “promptly recognized the error and await clarification due to the situation.” With the disqualification of the athlete, her Sporting partner, Sara Moreira, is considered the national champion of the 10,000 meters in the 2019/2020 season.

This whole situation caused stupefaction within the club, CM. Lion leaders were caught off guard and will talk to stakeholders to understand what happened. Meanwhile, total silence. Until this Saturday night, no public position had been taken and the club’s website still contained the news to report on the victory of Salomé Rocha.
