“There is an understandable despair in the most extreme situations, that is, in areas where demand has completely disappeared,” Economy Minister Siza Vieira said this Saturday during the announcement of a package of measures to support restoration and related sectors.

The minister stressed that there is still some ignorance of the announced measures, but stresses that 1,100 million euros will be available, of which 500 million will be lost. “And we want to start making payments from December.”

Siza Vieira guarantees that, within the Government, “we know that we are not going to be able to face all situations”, but part of the support (that is, non-reimbursable) will be for small companies in the sector “to endure the next few months. But we will continue to provide other support ”.

Another novelty raised by the minister is the possible support for non-residential rentals, that is, “for commercial establishments.”

The head of the economy portfolio assures that the restaurant sector lost about 1.86 billion euros in the first nine months of this year and, therefore, considers that the announced aid of 1.1 billion is a considerable help.

“We want to help maintain the treasury” of small and medium-sized companies in the sector. And remember that last year, around this time, the Websummit was being held in Lisbon, which later brought in significant income that, this year, does not exist.
