Portugal registered six more deaths from covid-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths to 1977. The number of cases exceeded 76 thousand.
Portugal exceeded 76,000 positive cases of covid-19, adding 854 more infections, for a total of 76,396, since March 2, when the pandemic officially arrived in Portugal.
According to the DGS daily bulletin, with reference to data collected up to midnight, six people died from covid-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 1977.
The number of hospitalized patients, which on Wednesday was 666, with 105 people admitted to intensive care units (ICU), is now 682 (plus 16), with 107 (two more) of which inspire more care.
The bulletin also records the recovery of 407 people, now counting 48,937 people who have already overcome the disease. In total, there are 25,482 active cases, 441 more than on Wednesday.
Five dead in Lisbon and the Vale a Tagus region
Five of the fatalities lived in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley (RLVT) region and one in the north.
The victims touch three age groups. There are two women and one man over 80 years old, and one of each gender in the previous step, between 60 and 70 years old. There is still a female victim, among people under 60 years of age.
The RLVT is the most affected by the disease, according to DGS data, adding 415 more positive cases (48.6% of cases in the last 24 hours), exceeding 39 thousand infections since the start of the pandemic – 39,107 infections They correspond to 51%, that is, more than half of the total registered in the country so far.
Deaths in the RLVT are now 770, 117 less than in the Northern Region (RN), which in the last 24 hours added another fatality, for a total of 887, in 27,369 cases since March 2, plus 340 (39 , 8% of the total) in the last 24 hours. A percentage equivalent to the weight of this region in the national total of cases, which is 36%.
The Central Region (CR) is the third where the epidemic is most felt, both in general and in the last 24 hours, in which it counted 54 more positives (6% of the total), for an accumulated of 6,212, remaining the 263 victims mortals. registered so far. In percentage terms, CR represents 8% of the national total.
The rest of the country represents 6% of the total cases registered to date.
In Alentejo, the pandemic seems to be receding, and the region has 10 cases (1510 in total), maintaining the same 23 victims.
Further south, in the Algarve, the death toll was 19, but another 28 positive cases were added in the last 24 hours, for a total of 1,693.
Islands resist the spread of the virus
On the islands, the insularity appears to act as a barrier against the virus. The Azores recorded one more positive, for 275 in total and 15 deaths, a figure that has not changed in several months.
In Madeira, the figures are even lower: 230 cases (six in the last 24 hours) and no deaths associated with covid-19 since the pandemic became official in Portugal.
