SIC News | Wear a mask and avoid kissing during sex, doctor advises

Stop kissing and consider wearing a mask when you have sex to protect yourself from the coronavirus, recommended one of Canada’s top doctors on Wednesday.

Theresa Tam said in a statement that the likelihood of getting infected through semen or vaginal fluid is very low. However, sexual activity with new partners increases the risk of contracting the virus, especially if there is close contact, such as kissing.

Therefore, the doctor advises not to kiss the partner, avoid face-to-face contact, use a mask that covers the mouth and nose, and monitor the partner for symptoms before any sexual activity.

Sexual health is an important part of overall health, Theresa said, and recalled that if you take precautions, you can find ways to enjoy physical intimacy.

Since the start of the pandemic, Canada has recorded 130,242 COVID-19 cases and 9,138 deaths. New daily cases are well below the peak volume, but there has been a recent increase, driven by outbreaks in certain western Canadian provinces.
