Spain recorded 184 deaths due to the covid-19 pandemic in the last 24 hours, compared to 176 on Tuesday, but against 200 for the fifth consecutive day.

According to the Spanish Ministry of Health, the country has so far had a total of 27,104 deaths since the disease was declared.

According to published figures, there are 439 new cases with the disease, bringing to 228,691 the total number of infected people confirmed to date by the PCR test, the most reliable for detecting the new coronavirus.

Daily data also indicates that, in the last 24 hours, 412 patients were hospitalized, out of a total of 123,896 people who needed to be hospitalized.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez returned today to insist on “unity” between the political formations to save lives, jobs and businesses, after having asked the Popular Party (right) to “abandon the confrontation”.

“The unit saves lives, but it can also save many jobs and many companies,” Pedro Sánchez said in the debate in the Spanish parliament in which he also asked the leader of the largest opposition party, Pablo Casado, of the PP “to join unit”.

The Spanish autonomous communities that have not yet passed phase one of the lack of definition have yet to submit new reports to support this passage starting next Monday, one week after the rest of the regions.

One of them is the community of Madrid, the most affected by the pandemic, which tried to enter phase one last Monday, but which the Government failed, considering that the region still did not meet all the conditions to do so.

“The state of emergency is not a political project,” said Sánchez, who has been criticized by several autonomous communities because the government has not yet included them in the next phase of easing the very strict measures approved to combat the pandemic.

Spain is the second country with the most deaths with covid-19 per million inhabitants (576 deaths), after Belgium (763) and before Italy (511), the United Kingdom (482) and France (414), in a list where the United States has 252 and Portugal 114.

Globally, according to a report by the AFP news agency, the pandemic has already claimed more than 290,000 deaths and infected more than 4.2 million people in 195 countries and territories.

With a decline in new patients in intensive care and contagion, several countries have begun developing plans to reduce confinement and, in some cases, to alleviate various measures.

The Council of Ministers approved on Tuesday an electronic resolution that will keep the land borders with Spain closed.

The measure will take effect tomorrow and is expected to continue until the health authorities consider that the reopening is safe. The indication to maintain border control had previously been given by the Minister of Internal Administration, Eduardo Cabrita.

Portugal will thus maintain the nine land border control posts from north to south.

Within the scope of border control, tourist and leisure travel between the two countries is avoided, and only freight and cross-border workers are allowed.
