The Maritime Police and the GNR found the group of 30 migrants who had landed illegally on the Deserta island of Faro on Tuesday, having been seen by people on the beach.

The group is made up mainly of men, with three women, one of whom is pregnant and a child. They left Morocco and made the trip in a wooden boat.

The group will travel by bus to the Quarteira Logistics Support Base, where they will undergo screening tests at the COVID-19, and it is expected that it will be delivered later to the Immigration and Border Service.

At least 18 members of the Maritime Police were at the scene, supported by four boats and other means. Elements of the GNR Coastal Control Unit also participated in the operation.

The last case of a migrant landing off the Algarve coast occurred in July, when a group of 21 men, allegedly Moroccans, landed on Farol Island, also in the municipality of Faro.
