SIC News | Spanish politician hides behind mask to pretend to speak English

The city of Valencia, in Spain, lost the race for the European Capital of Innovation square, an event of the European Commission, but its presentation by Carlos Galiana is making the ink run. All this because the councilor with the innovation portfolio used a mask to hide that he does not speak English.

Since the mayor was unable to speak at the online event, it was Galiana who replaced him. Face covered with a protective mask against COVID-19, the councilor seems to give a perfect speech in English. But, after all, it was all an interpretation.

The voice was not Galiana’s, but someone who was speaking for him. The politician, also an actor by profession, was gesturing and moving his face at the same time. The reproduction could have been perfect, if it had not been that many of the spectators recognized that the voice did not correspond to that of the councilor.

According to the newspaper El Espanhol, the event’s regulations did not allow the use of an interpreter. However, the Valencian politician has already issued an apology for what happened.
