In the last 24 hours, Portugal registered 5,891 new cases of infection and 79 deaths associated with the Covid-19 disease, according to the bulletin of the General Directorate of Health (DGS) published today.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Portugal has registered 3,632 deaths and 263,015 cases of Covid-19.

There is one more hospitalized patient in the Intensive Care Units, which number 432. Regarding hospitalizations on the ward, there are 23 more people hospitalized, totaling 3,051, a new maximum since the start of the pandemic.

DGS reveals that there are 1,555 more active contagion cases than in relation to Tuesday. An additional 4,257 patients were reported to have recovered, 153,702 since the onset of the pandemic.

Health officials now have 79,627 people under surveillance.

With respect to the 5,891 new cases, 3,191 are registered in the north, 1,637 in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, 791 in the Center region, 133 in Alentejo, 119 in the Algarve, 19 in the Azores and one in Madeira.

Of the 79 deaths that are lamented in the last 24 hours, 47 occurred in the North, 16 in Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, 10 in the Center region, 5 in the Alentejo and one in the Algarve.

Confirmed cases are distributed in all age groups, with the highest number of infections between 20 and 59 years.

The new coronavirus has already infected at least 103,990 men and 127,452 women in Portugal, according to reported cases.

Today’s bulletin indicates that there are 4,573 confirmed cases of unknown sex that are under investigation, as this data is not automatically released.

Of the total deaths, 1,856 were men and 1,776 women.

The highest number of deaths is still concentrated in people over 80 years of age.

A THIRD OF THE INTERNALIZED PEOPLE ARE BETWEEN 40 AND 69 YEARS OLD

The Minister of Health, Marta Temido, revealed in the usual press conference on pandemic data that 4% of hospitalized Covid patients are under 40 years old and 33%, approximately one third, are between 40 and 69 years old.

Those over 70 are 63% of those hospitalized with Covid-19.

More than 1.3 million deaths and 55.6 million cases worldwide

The number of infections in the world by the SARS-CoV-2 virus is 55,614,470 and deaths in 1,339,130, according to the latest report from the agency France-Presse.

The United States is the country that leads in number of cases and deaths, followed by India, Brazil, France, Russia and Spain.
