SIC News | Portugal with 13 more deaths and 552 cases of Covid-19

The General Directorate of Health (DGS) reports in this Sunday’s bulletin that there are a total of 1,912 deaths and 68,577 cases of Covid-19 in Portugal since the start of the pandemic.

The country now represents more 13 dead related to Covid-19 and 552 new cases of contagion by the new coronavirus, according to the epidemiological bulletin of the General Directorate of Health (DGS).

DGS indicates that ten deaths were recorded in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region and three in the northern region.

There are 39,362 contacts under surveillance, 26 fewer than on Saturday.

Highest death toll since early July

The number of deaths associated with Covid-19 is the highest since July 9, the day on which 13 deaths related to the new coronavirus were also recorded.

The data also indicates that 511 people with Covid-19 are admitted to hospitals (14 more compared to Saturday), of which 63 (less one) are in intensive care units.

In the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region, where the highest number of infections occurs in the country, 179 new cases were reported, representing 35,004 cases of infection and 728 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

The northern region now records 273 more cases, now a total of 24,795, with 871 deaths.
In the Central region there were 29 more cases, with 5,621 infections and 256 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

In Alentejo, 35 more cases of Covid-19 have been registered, totaling 1,318 cases and 23 deaths so far.

The Algarve region today reported 33 more new cases of infection, with a total of 1,392 cases and 19 deaths from Covid-19.

In the autonomous region of the Azores, two new cases were registered in the last 24 hours, adding 243 infections and 15 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic. Madeira records another case, representing 204 infections, with no deaths to date.

Greater number of cases of infection between 20 and 59 years

In the last 24 hours, 192 patients have been recovered, so 45,596 people have already overcome the infection since the start of the pandemic in Portugal.

Confirmed cases are distributed in all age groups, with the highest number of infections between 20 and 59 years.

In total, the new coronavirus has already affected at least 30,985 men and 37,592 women in Portugal, according to reported cases.

Of the total deaths, 963 were men and 949 women. The highest number of deaths is still concentrated in people over 80 years of age.

Two dead in Vimioso’s house

The number of deaths from Covid-19 in a Vimioso house in the Bragança district increased to two. In total, there are now 36 cases: 27 users and 9 employees. The outbreak was detected on Friday after the death of an 85-year-old user.

Subsequently, tests showed that only one of the home users is not infected.

Most infected people stay home. In statements to SIC Notícias, José Fidalgo, Mayor of Vimioso, guarantees that the institution has conditions and that the case is being monitored by the competent authorities.

Two of the 43 children infected by the outbreak that began in Ourique’s house

There are records of 43 people infected as a result of a Covid-19 outbreak that began in a house in the town of Santa Luzia, in Ourique. Among the positive cases there are two children, 2 years and 11 months.

A 2-year-old girl is the granddaughter of one of the infected employees of the home, she attends the nursery of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Ourique, where another 11-month-old baby, the son of a domestic employee, also tests positive.

The nursery was closed due to disinfection. The educator and the assistant have already been evaluated, the next step is to test all the children in the nursery.

Penedono school closed after Covid-19 case detected

The Basic School 2/3 of Penedono, in the district of Viseu, will not open this Monday, after a positive case was detected in a school employee.

The new coronavirus infection was detected in the school cook. The situation was already identified on Friday. In an interview with SIC Notícias, the mayor of Penedono, Carlos Esteves Carvalho, complains about the lack of responses from the health authorities.

The school management is trying to find solutions, it is known that the school will not open this Monday and it is feared that the situation will continue for more days.
