The General Directorate of Health (DGS) announced this Sunday the existence of a total of 1,953 deaths and 73,604 cases of covid-19 in Portugal since the start of the pandemic.

The death toll rose from 1,944 to 1,953, nine more than on Saturday. The number of infected people increased from 72,939 to 73,604, plus 665.

In the last 24 hours, 20 more hospitalizations were registered, increasing the number of people with COVID-19 admitted to hospitals to 635, while 4 more intensive care users were registered, in a total of 89.

From yesterday to today, 267 patients have been recovered, so 47,647 people have already overcome the infection since the start of the pandemic in Portugal.

The bulletin also indicates that the health authorities have 44,274 contacts under surveillance, 691 more in relation to Saturday, and that 267 patients were reported to have recovered in the last 24 hours.

In the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region, another 252 new cases of infection were reported, and the region recorded 37,628 cases and 753 deaths.

In the Central region there were 70 more cases, representing a total of 6,017 infections and 262 deaths.

In Alentejo, 55 more cases of covid-19 were registered, totaling 1,487 cases, maintaining the 23 deaths previously registered.

The Algarve region today reported 38 more cases of infection, adding 1,581 cases and keeping the 19 dead.

In the Autonomous Region of the Azores, another new case was registered in the last 24 hours, adding 267 detected infections and 15 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

Madeira registered three cases in the last 24 hours, representing 217 infections, with no deaths to date.

Confirmed cases are distributed in all age groups, with the highest number of infections between 20 and 59 years old, with an emphasis on the 30-49 age group.

Globally, the new coronavirus has already infected at least 33,371 men and 40,233 women in Portugal, according to reported cases.

Of the total fatalities, 984 were men and 969 women.

The highest number of deaths is still concentrated in people over 80 years of age.
