The president of the European Commission urged the European Union this Wednesday to start “as soon as possible” a vaccination campaign against covid-19, the launch simultaneously in all 27 Member States, to ensure the eradication of the “horrible virus”.

In a debate in the European Parliament on last week’s summit of EU leaders, Ursula von der Leyen stressed that “no one should think they are safe [da pandemia], not when more than 3,000 Europeans die from covid-19 every day, “but noted that” finally there is good news “with the development of vaccines, the first of which should be approved early next week.

Coordinator of the National Vaccination Plan against covid-19 heard in Parliament

The coordinator of the national vaccination plan against covid-19, Francisco Ramos, is heard this Wednesday in Parliament.

The hearing was requested by PSD and CDS and the parties want clarification on the vaccination plan in Portugal.

The vaccine against covid-19, which should arrive in Portugal from January, will be universal, free and optional, and will be made available to the population according to the characteristics approved by the European Medicines Agency.

Francisco Ramos has already explained that a batch is expected to arrive in January and another batch in February (all from Pzifer), and it is estimated that only in mid-January the health authorities must make a decision on the final evaluation and acceptance of the vaccine for Modern.

If all goes well, Francisco Ramos admitted that in January it will also be possible to have access to the vaccines of these pharmaceutical companies, warning however that there is some “uncertainty” citing that, for example, there is still no date for the evaluation of the AstraZeneca vaccine , although there is still “I hope” that there is a decision in January or February.

“It is the best scenario, but there is still uncertainty, that is, regarding the amount” of vaccines available, “he said, reiterating his confidence that the Oxford / AstraZeneca vaccine is expected in February.
