A man was shot dead by the GNR this Tuesday, after a police operation in Fernão Ferro, in the municipality of Seixal.

In a statement, GNR explained that, after the execution of an arrest warrant, two soldiers from that police force were involved in a shooting in the town of Fernão Ferro, Seixal, in the Setúbal district.

“The military guard approached the suspect, who was accompanied by a woman, who reacted and fired at one of the soldiers, followed by an exchange of gunfire,” the note says.

“From this situation, both the military and the woman were injured and medical assistance is being provided,” you can read.

The GNR also revealed that the suspect eventually died at the scene and that a man was still in custody for resistance and duress.

According to the GNR, the Judicial Police were called to the scene.

According to the official website of the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority, the alert for the incident occurred at 6:22 p.m. and, on the site, around 8:15 p.m., there are 36 operations supported by 19 vehicles.
