The 18 districts of mainland Portugal will be under yellow warning on Monday due to the forecast of sometimes heavy and persistent rains, and also due to the wind, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere.

According to the IPMA page, the districts of Viseu, Porto, Guarda, Vila Real, Setúbal, Santarém, Viana do Castelo, Lisbon, Leiria, Castelo Branco, Aveiro, Coimbra and Braga are under yellow alert due to strong wind, from 12 noon : 00 and until 21:00.

To this notice, we add what corresponds to the periods of rain, sometimes heavy and persistent, expected from 3:00 pm in most Portuguese districts.

Persistent rains and strong winds will return to mainland Portugal starting Monday afternoon due to a depression that will be located northwest of the Iberian Peninsula, meteorologist Ângela Lourenço told Lusa.

“For Monday a continuous, persistent, sometimes strong and gradual increase in the intensity of the wind is expected. These are typical autumn situations with more severe characteristics, that is, strong precipitation and strong wind and probably also accompanied by agitation of the sea. strong, “said the IPMA meteorologist.

Ângela Lourenço reinforced: “It is a serious situation in which we must be careful. However, it is a typical autumn situation. In autumn situations of heavy rainfall are beginning to appear.”

According to the meteorologist, this situation is due to the passage of frontal surfaces, frontal undulations, associated with a depression that will be northwest of the Iberian Peninsula, which will cross the continent next week.

In this way, the districts of Viseu, Évora, Porto, Guarda, Faro, Vila Real, Setúbal, Santarém Viana do Castelo, Leiria, Beja, Castelo Branco, Aveiro, Coimbra, Portalegre and Braga are on a yellow alert due to heavy and persistent rains . between 3:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. on Monday.

The Faro district is the only one of the 18 continental districts that also has a yellow warning for maritime disturbances, between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm. especially downwind.

The yellow warning is issued by the IPMA whenever there is a risk situation for certain activities depending on the weather situation.
