The Government approved this Tuesday, in the Council of Ministers, the increase in the national minimum wage to 665 euros, 30 euros more than what is in force.

The announcement was made a few moments ago at the usual press conference after the government meeting.

The decision to increase the SMN until 2021 in the amount of 30 euros means that the new value will reach 665 euros during the next year, continuing with what has been the path of the sustained increase in the minimum wage and is a step in the realization of what is in the Government’s program with a view to reaching 750 euros at the end of the legislature, in 2023, “said Gabriel Bastos, Secretary of State for Social Security.

The measure will benefit more than 740 thousand people, which corresponds to 21% of the workers.

This increase will have a greater weight in the accounts of the companies: for each employee who earns the minimum wage, the companies will have a monthly cost plus 37 euros, the amount of the increase plus the single social rate (TSU).

The Government is also committed to ensuring an increase for workers who provide services to the State and who receive the minimum wage.

In reaction to the social network Twitter, the President of the Government, António Costa, assures that this increase is “(…) slightly lower than last year, but maintaining the course (…) to reach € 750 in 2023 “. :
