The alert level in the UK due to covid-19 will rise to 5, or red, which means you are at material risk of exhausting the capacity of the British Health Service (NHS).

The system was created in May and it is the first time that the maximum alert has been triggered, after seven consecutive days above 50 thousand new daily cases. The system, which refers to the threat of the pandemic, is defined by the Joint Center for Biosafety, which includes chief doctors from the four countries.

In a statement quoted by SKY News, the center admits that health systems are “under great pressure” and doctors say they are not confident:

“Currently, there are very high transmission rates in the community, with a substantial number of covid patients in hospitals and in intensive care (…) Cases are increasing in much of the country, driven by the new variant. We are not sure that the NHS (British health system) can cope with an increase in cases. And without further action, there is a material risk for the NHS, in several areas, of being overwhelmed in the next 21 days. “

The United Kingdom registers almost 60,000 new cases and exceeds 75,000 deaths

In the last 24 hours, the United Kingdom registered 58,784 new cases of covid-19 and 407 deaths.

As of Sunday, 54,990 cases and 454 deaths had been reported. In recent days, the daily average number of cases has increased by 50% and that of deaths by 21% compared to the previous seven days.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 2,713,563 cases of contagion and 75,431 deaths of infected people in the United Kingdom.

The British prime minister will announce new measures on Monday night to contain the covid-19 pandemic and Parliament has been summoned to an extraordinary meeting on Wednesday, suggesting that a new national lockdown could be enacted.
