Paulo Paixão, virologist and president of the Portuguese Society of Virology, says that it is not surprising that the number of daily cases of covid-19 exceeds 1,000 and that a second wave was already expected.

“The question was not whether there was going to be a second wave, but when was it going to start.”

In an interview this Friday in the Late Edition of SIC Notícias, the virologist assures that the second wave in Portugal is “as strong or stronger” than the first. He says that at the European level the figures now exceed those of the first wave.

Paulo Paixão talks about the mortality figures, which “are clearly better”, and explains why.

On the transmission of the coronavirus, he says that there is much to learn. He maintains that moments of fraternization, with family or friends, and social breaks at work are the most important factors in the transmission of the virus.
