Paulo Paixão, virologist and president of the Portuguese Society of Virology, considers that the doctors implanted to contain the covid-19 pandemic are adequate and highlights that what is happening in Portugal is at the European level: “We are all on the same wave.” .
In an interview this Friday in Jornal das 7, in SIC Notícias, the virologist considers that the the situation was underestimated, both socially and politically.
Regarding the possibility of a new total confinement, Paulo Paixão defends that, if the country collapses, “something must be done”but he is hopeful that it will not be necessary to get to that point.
The virologist is in favor of wearing the mask outdoors, coinciding with the measure approved this Friday in Parliament.
“The exterior does not prevent transmission (…) If I speak with a friend from a meter away, without a mask, the transmission is made, perhaps with the same ease as indoors.”
Portugal is going through “a very difficult time in the evolution of the pandemic”
The Minister of Health assures that there is a “very difficult moment in the evolution of the pandemic in Portugal and Europe” and that “the next few days are going to be complicated, with high pressure on the National Health Service ”.
Marta Temido revealed that a field hospital is being created in Penafiel to serve the counties of the Vale do Sousa region and said that the Government has decided to accept the distribution of rapid tests to Covid-19 from the Portuguese Red Cross.
31 MORE DEATHS AND 2,899 COVID-19 CASES IN PORTUGAL IN THE LAST 24 HOURS
The General Directorate of Health (DGS) announced in the daily bulletin this Friday that there are 31 more deaths and 2,899 new cases of Covid-19 in Portugal.
The death toll rose from 2,245 to 2,276, 31 more than Thursday, the highest number of deaths in a single day since April 24, when the DGS announced 34 deaths.
The number of infected people increased from 109,541 to 112,440, another 2,899 in 24 hours.
