The Minister of Health assures that there is a “very difficult moment in the evolution of the pandemic in Portugal and Europe” and that “the next few days are going to be complicated, with high pressure on the National Health Service ”.

31 MORE DEATHS AND 2,899 COVID-19 CASES IN PORTUGAL IN THE LAST 24 HOURS

The General Directorate of Health (DGS) announced in the daily bulletin this Friday that there are 31 more deaths and 2,899 new cases of Covid-19 in Portugal.

The death toll rose from 2,245 to 2,276, 31 more than Thursday, the highest number of deaths in a single day since April 24, when the DGS announced 34 deaths.

The number of infected people increased from 109,541 to 112,440, another 2,899 in 24 hours.

Of the 31 deaths, 14 occurred in the north, 9 in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, 5 in the Centro region, 2 in Alentejo and 1 in the Algarve.

As for the new cases, 1,516 are in the north, 918 in Lisbon and the Tagus valley, 364 in the Center region, 53 in Alentejo, 38 in the Algarve, 8 in Madeira and two in the Azores.

Under surveillance, 57,455 contacts remain, 1,646 more than Thursday.

Data released this Friday reveal even more 1,349 recovered cases, for a total of 65,880.

Active cases are now 44,284, 1,519 more compared to the previous day.

1,418 people are hospitalized, 53 more than on Thursday. 198 patients are admitted to the intensive care units, two less than the day before.
