The National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) issued recommendations on Thursday for the next 48 hours due to the forecasts of heavy rain and winds until the end of Friday throughout the territory of mainland Portugal.

In a statement, ANEPC explains that the forecasts of the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) for Thursday and Friday point to heavy rains throughout the continent, with the possibility of storms in the interior, and moderate to strong wind. .

In view of the forecasts, Civil Protection admits the possibility of floods in “historically vulnerable places” and in underground urban structures, and of rapid floods in urban areas.

The possibility of accidents on the coast, falling branches or trees due to the strong wind and the eventual formation of water tables on the roads is also anticipated.

ANEPC recommends that you avoid the practice of activities related to the sea and traffic near the coast and riparian areas and take special care when driving and staying near wooded areas.

In the event of flooding or flooding, flooded areas should not be crossed by people or vehicles.

Defensive driving is recommended for drivers, “reducing speed and taking special care with the possible formation of water tables on the roads”.

Civil Protection also recommends that water drainage systems are not obstructed and that loose structures are properly fixed.
