Civil Protection warned this Wednesday of a decrease in the minimum temperature between Thursday and Sunday throughout the continent, recommending “special care” for children, the elderly, people with chronic diseases and the homeless.

“Special attention is needed to the most vulnerable population groups: children, the elderly and people with chronic pathologies and the homeless population,” says the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) in a statement.

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) forecasts wind and cold in the coming days, with the minimum temperature dropping on Thursday in the entire continent between -1º and 10º degrees and a maximum temperature that varies between 5º and 17 degrees.

On Friday, Christmas Day, a minimum temperature between -3º and 9º degrees and a maximum that varies between 4º and 18º degrees is expected, as well as the east quadrant wind, which blows with more intensity in the mountains up to 80 km per hour. starting at dawn.

The IPMA also anticipates the possibility of fog, ice and frost.

In a warning to the population, ANEPC says that the impact of these climatic conditions “can be minimized by adopting appropriate behaviors”, recommending that prolonged exposure to cold and sudden changes in temperature be avoided.

The Civil Protection advises the use of several layers of clothing, loose and adapted to the ambient temperature, the intake of soups and hot drinks and attention to protection by workers who carry out their activity abroad, as well as driving defensive in places. of probable icing on the road.

It also recommends “special attention” to braziers and fireplaces, which can cause poisoning due to accumulation of carbon monoxide and cause death, with adequate ventilation of the houses.
