The General Directorate of Health (DGS) announced on Monday the existence of a total of 1,957 deaths and 74,029 cases of covid-19 in Portugal since the start of the pandemic.
The death toll went from 1,953 to 1,957, four more than on Sunday, three in the north and one in the Lisbon region and the Tagus valley.
The number of infected went from 73,604 to 74,029, 425 more than yesterday.
There are 237 more recovered patients, now numbering 47,884.
In the last 24 hours, 24 more people were hospitalized and now 659 patients are hospitalized. There are 9 more in intensive care, for a total of 98 today.
Numbers by region
In the region of Lisbon and Tagus Valley 188 new cases of infection were reported, representing 37,816 cases and 754 deaths.
The region North Today it registers another 168 new cases of covid-19, totaling 26,575 and 884 deaths since the start of the pandemic in March.
In the region Center there were 43 more cases, representing a total of 6,060 infections and 262 deaths.
Not Alentejo Seven more cases of covid-19 were registered, totaling 1,494 cases, maintaining the 23 deaths previously registered.
The region of Algarve today it has reported 19 more cases of contagion, totaling 1,600 cases and maintains the 19 deaths previously recorded.
In the Autonomous Community of Azores no new cases have been reported in the last 24 hours, adding 267 detected infections and 15 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
A Madeira Nor did it register new cases, maintaining the 217 infections and no deaths to date.
Gender and age group
Confirmed cases are distributed in all age groups, with the highest number of infections between 20 and 59 years old, with an emphasis on the 30-49 age group.
Overall, the new coronavirus has already infected at least 33,553 men and 40,476 women in Portugal, based on reported cases.
Of the total deaths, 985 were men and 972 women.
The highest number of deaths is still concentrated in people over 80 years of age.
Cases by County
Today’s bulletin announces the number of cases per municipality, being Lisbon which continues to present more infections (6,517), followed by Sintra (5,441), Loures (3,092) e Amadora (3,038) and Vila Nova de Gaia (2,275).
The municipality of Odivelas registers 2,209 infections by covid-19, Cascais 2,036, Porto 1,802, Oeiras 1,725, Vila Franca de Xira 1,630 and Matosinhos 1,538.
More than 1 million deaths worldwide
More than a million deaths from the new coronavirus have been recorded worldwide since its detection in China, according to a count by Agence France-Presse, from official sources.
In total, 1,000,009 deaths were officially registered worldwide, for 33,018,877 cases, at 10:30 p.m. on Sunday.
The AFP also reports that the authorities considered 22,640,048 people cured.
Countries and regions most affected
The regions most affected, in terms of number of deaths, are Latin America and the caribbean (341,032 deaths per 9,190,683 cases), Europe (229,945 deaths per 5,273,943 cases), and the United States and Canada (214,031 deaths per 7,258,663 cases).
the United States It is the country with the most deaths (204,499) and also with the most confirmed cases of infection (more than seven million).

In Europe, the highest number of fatalities is registered in the United Kingdom (41,988 deaths, more than 434 thousand cases), followed by Italy (35,835 deaths, more than 309 thousand cases), France (31,727 deaths, more than 538 thousand cases) and Spain (31,232 deaths, more than 716 thousand cases).
