The General Directorate of Health (DGS) announced this Saturday the existence of a total of 1,995 deaths and 78,247 cases of covid-19 in Portugal since the start of the pandemic.

The death toll went from 1,983 to 1,995, 12 more than on Friday: 6 in the Lisbon region and the Tagus Valley, 3 in the North, 2 in the Center and 1 in the Alentejo.

The number of infected people increased from 77,284 to 78,247, plus 963.

Regarding hospital admissions, the bulletin reveals that in the last 24 hours there are less 14 patients hospitalized in wards and fewer in intensive care compared to Friday.

In total there are 668 patients admitted to nursing and 106 to Intensive Care Units, according to the report on the epidemiological situation of covid-19 in Portugal.

The bulletin also indicates that the health authorities have under surveillance 46,228 contacts, another 615 in relation to Friday, and that 486 patients were reported as recovered.

Since the beginning of the pandemic in Portugal, recovered from illness 49,845 people.

Cases by region

In the region of Lisbon and Tagus Valley 440 new cases of infection were reported, representing 39,928 cases and 781 deaths in the region.

The region North Today there are another 362 new cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection, totaling 28,094 and 891 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

In the region Center 60 more cases were registered, representing 6,354 cases and 265 deaths.

Not Alentejo 43 new cases of covid-19 were reported, with a total of 1,555 and 24 deaths.

The region of Algarve today 49 more cases of contagion have been reported, adding 1,792 cases and keeping the 19 dead.

In the Autonomous Community of Azores Two new cases have been reported in the last 24 hours, adding 282 infections and 15 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

A Madeira recorded seven more cases in the last 24 hours, representing 242 infections, with no deaths to date.

Gender and age

Confirmed cases are distributed in all age groups, with the highest number of infections between 20 and 59 years. The age group of 40 and 49 years is the highest value.

The new coronavirus has already infected at least 35,487 men and 42,760 women in Portugal, according to reported cases.

Of the total deaths, 1,000 were men and 995 women.

The highest number of deaths is still concentrated in people over 80 years of age.

The covid-19 pandemic has claimed at least 5,616 deaths in the last 24 hours worldwide and 323,984 new cases, bringing the number of deaths to 1,029,593 since the disease began in December, according to the daily balance of AFP.

More than 33,683,300 cases of contagion have been registered since the beginning of the pandemic, of which almost 24 million have already been cured, the agency France-Presse reported today in its daily balance.

The countries that registered the highest number of deaths in their latest balance sheets are India, with 1,069 victims, the United States (834) and Brazil (708).
