Barcelona once again witnessed violent street riots this Saturday night. Some groups of protesters, many with their faces covered, destroyed several places in the city and set a police van on fire.
In several cities in Catalonia, thousands of protesters called again for the release of rapper Pablo Hasel this Saturday night. But what started peacefully fell apart quickly. A group of hooded protesters orchestrated violent actions in the capital of Catalonia, after two nights without disturbances.
According to the Spanish press, a group set fire and threw Molotov cocktails at a local Barcelona police van (a policeman was inside the vehicle), set fire to the NH Calderón Hotel, destroyed the Zara and Decathlon chain stores and branches of the financial entity La. Caixa.
It was not only in Barcelona that the riots occurred. In Sabadell, the protesters set up barricades; in Tarragona, the university campus and a bank branch were vandalized; and in Lleida, they stoned a police patrol and destroyed several businesses.
The President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, condemned the violence on his Twitter page and called the acts of vandalism “unacceptable.”
At least 10 people have already been arrested this Saturday night.
