A fire in a shed in Sesimbra this Saturday caused explosions in the Roça area, reports the mayor.

According to the mayor, the explosions occurred in a gas tank between Alfarim and Aiana and only material damage was identified.

The fire was said to subside at 00:30. Inside the warehouse there would only be one vehicle and about 30 gas cylinders for resale, which would have been the cause of several explosions, heard several kilometers away.

Amateur videos show the impact of the explosion.

Source from the Setúbal District Relief Operations Command (CDOS) says the incident occurred at 11:15 p.m., adding that there were no casualties and that the explosions occurred outside the housing area.

TVI, Mayor Francisco Jesús assured that the situation is under control and there is no fire danger. He also says that although there was a house nearby, there was no one at the time of the explosion.

“I saw a flash and heard the explosion from miles away,” admitted the mayor, noting that the causes are not yet known.
