About 70 students from the Lisbon school of the German School have been in this preventive quarantine since Monday, after, on Saturday, those responsible for the school learned that one of the students was infected with covid-19.

School officials detected two cases of covid-19 in the school universe. According to the PUBLIC, one of the cases was a worker from a concession company and “was identified because the school examined all employees before classes began, including external ones.” “This case did not have any contact with the students,” they said.

The other case was identified in one of the high school students, in the center of Lisbon, “who was infected during the holidays, in a social contact outside of school. This Saturday we learned of the positive result of his test, “added those responsible in a written response.

In the case of the employee of the concession company, “all those who had contact with him during the preparation of the reopening were placed in preventive quarantine.” There are four employees of this company and a worker from the school.

As for the student, who according to the school was “present only on the first day of classes, having only had the initial class with the class director.”

“The school is organized in watertight ‘bubbles’, in the secondary school corresponding to the school years, which share school spaces, rest areas, entry and exit times, among others. Based on this, the health delegate of our area decided that students who may have had contact with this case should stay at home in a preventive way and be accompanied by the NHS ”, they add.

So all the students in this bubble went home, belonging to three high school classes.

“This decision from the health delegate was transmitted to us on Saturday, about two hours after we learned of the infection, and was communicated to the parents of this group that same day. These students began distance classes this morning at 8 in the morning, as scheduled in their usual hours ”, they reveal. Information about what happened was also delivered to the entire school community.

All other levels of education (kindergarten, primary and the rest of secondary school) maintain a regular operation with face-to-face classes.

“We spent part of last year and all summer preparing for this situation, so we are looking at it with concern, of course, but also with calm. We trust in the measures we have taken to minimize the possibility of contagion within the school and we feel very supported by the school doctor and the health delegate in our area ”, Teresa Salgueiro Lenze, director of the School, told the PUBLIC German.
