Anthony Lopes tested positive for covid-19 and was discharged from the national team, which will face France on Sunday.
It is the second positive case of the selection, after José Fonte was fired, on Tuesday, after having tested positive for covid-19.
“Portuguese international Anthony Lopes tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday night and was released from the job of the National Team,” the Portuguese Football Federation said.
“The others summoned, as well as the technical and personal team, tested negative in the SARS-Cov-2 projection,” it also reads on the FPF website, which announces a new test session for soccer players, this Friday by tomorrow.
Portugal will face France in a Nations League match on Sunday at 7:45 pm at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis (Paris).
Another confirmed defeat for this match, also by covid-19, is Leo Dubois, from the French team. The defender is a teammate of Anthony Lopes at Lyon, in the French league.
In the group of League A of the League of Nations – of which Portugal holds the trophy -, the Portuguese and French have six points, with the formation of the ‘quinas’ having an advantage in goal difference, while Sweden and Croatia they continue with zero.
The team led by Fernando Santos started the “window” of October matches on Wednesday, with a 0-0 draw with Spain, at the Estádio José Alvalade, in Lisbon, in a match in which Anthony Lopes was not used.
After the clash with the French, Portugal received on Wednesday, again in Alvalade, Sweden, which they won 2-0 in the round of 16, with two goals from Cristiano Ronaldo, 100 and 101 from ‘quinas’.
