The strong maritime unrest destroyed today an uninhabited house in Lugar das Pedrinhas, in Apúlia, Esposende municipality, with another house with neighbors “at risk” of being affected by the sea, said a captain from Viana de Castelo.

According to the captain of that captaincy, Sameiro Matias, “if the state of the sea continues to be rough, the house behind which it fell runs the risk of the same thing happening to it.”

Six people live in this second room, he said.

Contacted by Lusa, the mayor of Esposende, in the district of Braga, said that the municipality is monitoring the situation and stressed that those buildings are illegal.

“A project financed by the Environmental Fund is envisaged to rehabilitate the entire area, relocating the restaurants and houses that exist there,” said Benjamim Pereira.

However, a source in the municipality told Lusa that the family of six will be resettled today.

Ten districts of the continent are under yellow alert today and Tuesday due to the forecast of strong maritime disturbances, forecasting waves of 4 to 5 meters, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).

The districts of Viana do Castelo, Braga, Porto, Aveiro, Coimbra, Leiria, Lisbon, Setúbal, Beja and Faro are under yellow warning until 09:00 on Tuesday.

Due to the agitation of the sea, the bars of Vila Praia de Âncora, Caminha, Esposende, Póvoa do Varzim, Vila do Conde, Ericeira and Cascais are closed to all navigation.

According to the information available on the Marina website, the bars of Aveiro, Figueira da Foz are equipped for boats less than 35 meters in length and Viana do Castelo for boats less than 30 meters in length.
