A student of the first cycle of the Vallis Longus School Group, in Valongo, tested positive for covid-19, which put the class of 22 children and the teacher in quarantine, said the director Artur Oliveira on Monday.

According to the head of the group, the first year of the Escola do Calvário, Valongo, in the Porto district, “is quarantined at home” after that group was informed “by the student’s relatives” that he was infected.

“We followed the instructions of the health authority and the children stayed at home. The infection did not occur in a school context, but because the child’s parents are also infected,” he said.

Also according to Artur Oliveira, “there are two more infected students, also in a family context, in two EB 2.3 Vallis Longus classes, and they were detected last week by the respective families, who warned of the effect, as there were already cases of infection in that context “.

Two students are at stake, one from 6th grade and the other from 9th grade, said the official, specifying that, in these cases, the health authority “authorized face-to-face classes to continue under temperature monitoring twice a day.” to consider “it is a contagion of low risk”.

The group’s management, for its part, sent a communication to the tutors, in which it warns of a recommendation from the Municipal Civil Protection Commission “so that the norm for the use of masks by students is extended to at least up to a radius of 300 meters “. from school”.

“This rule must also apply to teachers, not teachers and tutors,” the statement to which Lusa had access also reads.
