The Basic School of Ponte de Pedrinha, in Braga, did not open this Thursday due to lack of operational assistants, advances the Newspaper (JN).

There are about 150 students, from 1st to 4th grade, who are left without classes.

In statements to JN, the director of the André Soares School Group, to which the school belongs, justifies that, “at another time”, the employees of another school in the group could have been displaced to Ponte Pedrinha, but in the current circumstances, all attendees are assigned to a school and it cannot be changed ”.

Also to that newspaper, Lídia Dias, Councilor for Education in the Braga Chamber, regrets the situation and says that she is waiting for the Employment Institute to “free 50 employees.”

In recent days, the number of sick leave of operational assistants has increased exponentially and, taking into account that there are 30 employees with prolonged leave, it is not being easy to make substitutions or hires, “said the councilor.

The parents’ association warned yesterday on its Facebook page about the “strong possibility that the school will not open due to lack of a sufficient number of operational assistants.”
