Whoever receives the Russian covid-19 vaccine, Sputnik V, should not drink alcohol for the next 42 days, recommended Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatiana Golíkova, head of the vaccination plan, and head of Russian health services. Anna Popova.
“Vaccinated people should avoid public places and reduce the intake of drugs and alcohol, which can suppress the immune system, in the first 42 days after the application of the first of the two doses,” said Golíkova.
The campaign in Russia has already started this Saturday in the capital, in Moscow, and will be extended to the rest of the country in the coming weeks. The vaccine is voluntary and takes two doses, three weeks apart.
The head of Russian health services, Anna Popova, said that alcohol consumption should stop “at least two weeks before vaccination,” she said in an interview with The Moscow Times.
Like Tatiana Golíkova, Popova also recommended avoiding alcohol for 42 days after the first injection, explaining that “immunity was developing” and “you have to be careful.”
Anna Popova also cautioned that people who received the vaccine should also not smoke before and after the injection, as this could affect the immune response and cause some type of lung irritation.
Russia sent documents to the World Health Organization on Wednesday about the country’s second vaccine against covid-19, EpiVacCorona, Anna Popova announced.
In the last 24 hours, 559 deaths and 26,190 new cases of covid-19 were registered in the country. In total, Russia accumulates 2.5 million infections, being the fourth country in the world most affected by SARS-CoV-2, after the United States, India and Brazil.
